European Union (EU) Nationals/ European Economic Area (EEA)/Switzerland: EU citizens and those from Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland that stay in Portugal for periods longer than 90 days, should request at the Municipal Hall of their residence, after 3 months upon arrival, a registration certificate. 

Nationals of other countries: Citizens from other countries that stay in Portugal for periods longer than 90 days, should, upon arrival, request a Residency Authorization at the Borders Services - Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF), where documents that are similar to those requested for the visa may be necessary.

The Higher Education Institution/ Research Centre will help to find the necessary contacts to deal with the residency in Portugal.
